Default Advent Speakers from 1978 - Need new woofers

I have a pair of original "New Advent" speakers I bought in 1978.
The cabinets are still in almost-new condition, but unfortunately
the woofers are on their last legs... the rubber gasket around the
outside of the cone is starting to crumble from age.

These have always been wonderful speakers, and I'd really like
to put in new woofers. Can anyone recommend what I should
use and where I can obtain them?

Thanks

There are people who can "re-foam" your speakers.
Since original woofers aren't available, this would be your best option.
Some companies sell the kits, but I believe it's a bit of a tricky job, and
one that must be done correctly the first time.

Jim,

The best bet is to have your woofers repaired or 'refoamed'. I've had
excellent results with:

Millersound Labs
1422 Taylor Road
Lansdale, PA 19446
phone 215-412-7700
fax 215-412-0542

You only need to send the actual woofers. I suggest you make a note of
the color code of the wires when you disconnect them. Contact them for
pricing.

You don't need to replace the entire woofer, just put on a new foam
surround. This is easier than it sounds or you can have it done for
you.

You can get new surrounds at the following:

http://www.speakerworks.net
http://www.speakerrepair.com/OCSrekit.html
http://www.newfoam.com/kits.asp

Also check out:

A google search of "speaker refoam" will turn up many more.

If the only thing wrong is the surrounds, I recommend a rebuild kit from
Orange County Speaker Repair:

http://www.speakerrepair.com/

They seem to do a good job matching the replacement surround to the
parameters of the original driver. I used their kit a couple of years ago
on my Mirage 550, and the results were great.
