I was getting set to register online for AES. But then I was thinking
my name/address would get distributed to all the exhibitors and then
I'd start getting endless amounts of "junk" mail (although it would
be 10 times more interesting than the local mattress-sale junk I have
to sift through).

Any ideas on this? I'd save 10 bucks, but I'm really into avoiding
junk mail and unsolicited-solicitors.

Usually I just kind of show up at AES and wing it.

AES has my email address and I've never gotten spam or snail mail as a
result of that at all. But, when you go to the convention all the exibiters
are gonna ask to scan your convention pass, and you'll end up on a ton of
mailing lists from that. If you don't want to get on a mailing list don't let
them scan your pass at the convention.

read and then don't read it.

You don't think that they use the application forms for a mailing
list? And you don't think they put you on a list if you ask for
information and they scan your badge? They gotta get SOMETHING out of
the considerable amount of money they spend to exhibit at the show.

Just the opposite for me. I'm not traveling 2000 miles to either NY or LV
for a convention, but would really like to get on the mailing lists. Is
there a place to sign up for free (exhibits only) passes that I won't use?

You may be surprised to know that I've gotten to that skill level. In
fact, I've even gotten past basic math skills:

300 mail days a year, 30 seconds wasted on junk mail= 150 minutes
wasted= 2 1/2 hours wasted per year on junk mail.

I even know a bit about science. Paper comes from trees. Junk mail
means unnecessary impact on tree supply.


Caveman know few things.
