I need enclosure help....
I'm in the process of purchasing a single Audiobahn 1208T and an Audiobahn
A2150HCT amp. The problem I am having is the enclosure. Audiobahn's site says that the optimal frequency for the 'everyday bass' setup is 36hz. However, I listen to rap almost always, and was wondering if something like 30hz would be better. I am currently thinking of 2.5 cu ft of air space. This box has to fit in the trunk of a '99 Mustang GT, so I may be kind of limited. (Trunk space isn't all that bad, but entrances to trunk are). Does anyone have any experience with this sub in a Mustang? If so, what size box did you go with (exact dimensions preferably)? If anyone can give me any insight as to this, or has experience with this sub, please let me know. |

Oh, I alwaos wanted to ask, how does this sub perform in a sealed enclosure?
I know it is not recommended, but I was wondering how sealed would sound if I had to use it as a last resort. I had an Audiobahn AW1805X in a sealed box at one time, and it sounded great. I was wondering if the same would go for this case. "Erik Hovind" wrote in message news:j%yae.15521$Z73.8933@lakeread04... Most rap consists of bass at 40 - 50 Hz, so tuning the box to 30 would be a
waste of space in my opinion. Make a smaller box, tune it higher, and you'll have more space to boot. Thanks for the reply, what volume do you think I could get by with for this
particular sub if I were to tune it to let's say 36hz? "Tony F" wrote in message ... Most rap consists of bass at 40 - 50 Hz, so tuning the box to 30 would be a waste of space in my opinion. Download a program (freeware) called WinISD, and you can find that out
from it. It has a nifty function where it shows what the frequency response curve WILL be, not what it would be theoretically... As an example, I had a good box design all figured out, and had done a page worth of algebra to tune the port to about 31 Hz. I got this program and input all (and I mean ALL) of the data; turns out that the box was too small. NO MATTER WHAT, I wasn't going to get anything below 35 Hz at -3db. I would've never known that if I hadn't gotten a program to look at. This isn't the end all tool of car audio, but it's a great start, and gives you a much better idea of an acutual frequency response curve for whatever sub you have. Hope this helps!! Mister.Lull |

Mister.Lull Speaking of WinISD, I have noticed that pretty much EVERY sub I punch into that program spits out a far larger enclosure then the manufacturer recommends. I am inclined to believe that this is because the manufacturers are full of crap when pitching the "optimal" enclosure size for their subs. Case in point is an older Pioneer TS-W251C 10" 120W sub. Pioneer recommends 1.5 cuft vented enclosure with single 3" dia x 7.5" port. WinISD says 4 cuft enclosure with single 4" dia x 5" port ... just a SLIGHT difference there. Same scenario with my old Orion XTR10 and a dozen other subs I tried randomly just to see what would happen. -- Dan Snooks |

"Speaking of WinISD, I have noticed that pretty much EVERY sub I punch into

I believe the program told me .438 cu ft and I.D. said .45.
