Default Problem with Shure Beta 98

I am using the Beta 98 capsules to mic toms in live applications, and am
finding that they sound great for about an hour, and then after that, only
one of them will begin to crackle and distort when played...I'm trying to
start tracing the problem, but I have several potential culprits. It could
be: the mic itself, the cable, the in-line amplifier, or the gate I
haverunning through the insert.

Tonight, I'm thinking I'll put the mic on a different tom, see if the
crackle follows the mic, then go through a process of elimination, swapping
out only one component at a time until I can figure it out.

Any ideas on what might be the most likely offender?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff
