Hardware for VST?

what do you think about this? There have been two other similar devices, one defunct (Plugzilla), the other (Muse) still hanging in. SM Pro Audio stuff is relatively inexpensive, so maybe this one will come in at a price that more common folks can handle. These gadgets are fine for unprotected or freeware VST plug-ins (instruments, primarily) but things get kind of tricky when you want to use one that requires a hardware key or registration procedure. -- If you e-mail me and it bounces, use your secret decoder ring and reach me he double-m-eleven-double-zero at yahoo -- I'm really Mike Rivers ) |

what do you think about this? http://www.smproaudio.com/index.php?...ask=view&id=76 I would love to have a rackmount VST/VSTi host. Thing is, every time I've looked at the very few product offerings, I've decided I'd be better off using a custom rackmount PC or a laptop. The deciding factor is price. Generic computers are pretty inexpensive nowadays. Meanwhile, dedicated VST machines have been very expensive, I assume due to the small market of people who need or prefer them. Another factor for me is maintainability. Rather than depend on a proprietary system, I prefer to use common, generic hardware that is easy to replace if necessary. I'd go for rack pc and a neat screen and a midi controller and maybe 8 decent outputs on your sound card. |

You know what? With a laptop pulgged into it it would be great. The XLRs on the back did it for me. Get one! How Much is it? Can you get more ram for it? Ethernet? |
