Grand Cherokee Question- tweeters
I recently bought a Pioneer deh-p3600 head unit and 4 6.5" Infinity
Reference 2-way speakers to upgrade my sound. I have a 93 Grand Cherokee limited, without the infinity system. Here is the problem: there are tweeters in the dash, but I'm not sure that they're working so well. Rather than replacing them, I was thinking of just taking them out altogether. Is there a crossover somewhere that I'll have to find?? I want to make sure that the high-end of the sound reaches my new Infinities. My other question is this: the Pioneer receiver has all kinds of equalizing and shaping features for the sound (EEQ, SFEQ, etc.), and so far, this has done nothing but confuse me. Is it better to focus bass in the back and treble up front even when they're the same speakers? Anyway, I'm a bit of a newbie to this, and I want to make the very best of what I've got. Any suggestions? |

Grand Cherokee Question- tweeters
Check under the back seat (on the driver's side) for a factory amplifier.
I've never seen a Grand Cherokee that had tweeters and DIDN'T have the Infinity system. It's possible that the previous owner swapped the radio from the 'Infinity' unit to a 'normal' factory radio, which in fact are the same! The Infinity-equipped vehicles have crossovers built into the Infinity amplifier. If you vehicle has the tweeters and no amp, then someone probably added them and connected them to the door speaker wires somewhere. In any case, you can replace them with aftermarket tweeters and just run the wire to the kick panel, where you'll install the crossovers at the door speaker wires...
