NPR played a few minutes of an older interview, where she
was asked about the importance of "Amazing Grace", and she
sang just a few verses. Nobody still drawing breath could have
remained without tears. A true giant indeed.

And, wonderful to see ya 'round; been a while, and much thanks,
as always,

A great loss....Nietzsche said that art is passionate suffering reshaped by
craft....her voice was the craft, and her life the passionate suffering....a
truely great presence.

When I used to make my living in the live sound business,
I did hundreds of folk festivals, and worked with Odetta several
times a year. She was always a consummate professional,
as well as being courteous and friendly. She was a welcome
contrast to some of the self-centered ego-driven talent. In
addition to having a great voice, and knowing how to use it,
and having a deep understanding of the meaning of the songs
she sang, she was just a lot of fun to work with.

She will be missed.
