Default SubWoofer replacement option

So my yard got hit my lightening and killed a bunch of equipment through
various means. One of those, though the reasons are confusing, was my
powered off Velodyne F1000. It's an oldie for sure, but was pretty
musical.

Since this is an insurance claim, I'm somewhat limited in how much
money I can spend on a replacment. My best guess is that the Velodyne
VLF1012 is a good replacement (obviously technology marched on and
it has better specs - though documents suggest less truly low
bass extension).

Another option is the MKIV 10 Earthquake, which I can find for a bit
less than the Velodyne.

So there seem to be two issues:
What is the better choice in terms of low, musical, bass (not just
guesses - I can make those ?
And, where the heck can I find a VLF1012? Velodyne doesn't list any
store within 120 miles of my house that actually admits to carrying
them - let along having them. Net vendors seem sparse for these units
as well. If folks believe the Earthquake is better, the problem is
moot of course
