MB Quart Speakers?
I can use 5 1/4 speakers in my car, front and rear. This is the max size for me. Have any of you used speakers from MB Quart ? I am looking at their componet 5 1/4 in, with external tweeter. Any comments ?? --James-- |

MB Quart Speakers?
I have used MB Quart's PSD216 series (6.5" midrange and 1" tweeter). Now I
can't speak to all of Quart's line, but here are my impressions about these. First, they are incredibly inefficient. Forget about driving them by deck power alone (I tried this once with my old Alpine 7863 with it's 27 watts X 4 RMS and it was a joke) as they will sound terrible. They need TONS of power. I tried running them with a 125 watts X 2 RMS amp (a SS REf. 700) and that was STILL not enough power. MY set TRULY needed about 150 watts X 2 RMS, AT LEAST!!! Second point, I was not impressed with their midrange driver. For a 6.5" speaker, it sounded more like a 4". It just couldn't seem to produce much midbass in the range of 80Hz-140Hz. I later switched mine out for a pair of JL VR650 (6.5" drivers) and it was like night and day. The midbass increased dramatically and the midrange dynamics were MUCH more forceful. Things like a kick-drum now had lots of "bite". On the positive side, I was very pleased with Quart's tweeters, especially their newer ones with the composite surrounds. The clarity and dynamics (ESPECIALLY AT HIGH VOLUMES) is second to none. There are some who argue that textile tweets sound best, but I just like the open, bright sound of Quart's titanium tweets. So in my system, I run Quart tweets and JL midbass drivers. I bi-amp those four speakers so I can use electronic X-overs for all speakers (I do not use the passive X-overs in my system). Anyway, that's my $.02, MOSFET "James" wrote in message . .. I can use 5 1/4 speakers in my car, front and rear. This is the max size for me. Have any of you used speakers from MB Quart ?
