For Sale: McIntosh MX117 Preamp/AM/FM Tuner in great condition. This
is a McIntosh C504 preamplifier and a McIntosh MR75 AM/FM tuner united
on one chassis.

The Tuner Section: The tuner of the MX117 is the same as the MR75,
which is to say, world-class. If you have never heard a McIntosh
tuner, you are in for a thrill.

The MX117 has no mechanical meters. Instead, there is a "tune right"
LED, a "tune left" LED, a "tuned in" LED, and a row of vertical LEDs
above tho show the strength of the station.

Fine tuning is not necessary on the MX117. Once you get near the
center of the station, AFL pulls the station into dead-center tuning,
and keeps it there.

There is no FILTER switch. Instead, a continuously-variable and
automatic system keeps track of signal strength and applied just the
right amount of blending of channels to keep noise down only when
necessary. With this filter design you never have reduced "highs".

Tuners can be designed for sensitivity (ability to pull in distant
stations in weak areas) or overload immunity (ability to separate
strong stations on a crowded dial in urban areas). The MR75 is both in
one. On the rear panel is a PRESELECT switch. Set it to the correct
position and you get ideal performance for your area!

The sense of openness and spaciousness to the sound is amazing. This
tuner's stereo separation is rated at 45dB MINIMUM, but, as the
performance graph in the manual show, typical performance is 50dB.
Amazing! Image rejection is 100dB minimum!

The Phono Preamp Section: If you're into records, this is your preamp.
The phono section is shockingly noise-free. The signal to noise ratio
is -90dB weighted! The story of how McIntosh got it this good is
interesting. McIntosh designed a new phono section that was amazingly
quiet for the C33 preamp. Then they discovered that the wiring to/from
the jacks to the selector switch added more noise than the circuits.
So they developed FET ANALOG INPUT SWITCHING. This same design is in
this MX117.

The phono section is placed directly at the input jacks. Instead of
bringing signals to the input switch, the switch only sends DC control
voltages to FET transistors that do the switching on the phono board.
Then they encase the phono amplification circuit inside a metal case
on the phono board. This is easy to see in the photo. The phono
circuits are inside the steel box, and only the switching FETS are
visible. The result is almost total elimination of noise and hum.

The Preamp Section: This section has super low noise (-100dB
weighted). Instead of bass and treble, the MX117 has a three band
equalizer. The 30Hz control is for deep bass, the 10K control lets you
add sparkle or reduce shrillness without affecting the middle-highs.
The best part is the 750Hz control. It allows you to make voices come
out or recede by turning it up or down. Once you use it, you're
hooked!

The MX117 has continuously variable loudness compensation, instead of
the usual on/off switch. You can add just enough "richness" to the
sound to make low-volume listening a pleasure.

Inputs and Outputs: The MX117 has inputs for TWO turntables (PHONO 1,
PHONO 2), a CD player (AUX) and TWO additional TAPE inputs (TAPE 1,
TAPE 2) which can be used for any other sources, and are on pushbutton
switches. There are output sets for TWO stereo power amps (MAIN 1 and
MAIN 2). There are also two sets of recording outputs. You can even
copy from one recorder to another while listening to a different
source! There are also the connections (SCOPE VERT and SCOPE HORIZ)
for connecting a McIntosh multipath scope (MI2, MI3, MPI4).

The MX117 also has a LINE output set. This runs off of the built-in
headphone amplifier (which, by the way, is also fantastic). This gives
you a super-low-impedance high level output to run long distances to
an amplifier a great distance away (up to hundreds of feet) without
loss!

There are five AC outlets on the rear, three of which are switched.

Condition: Great! The unit looks great. The inside of the chassis is
clean enough to eat off of. The inner dial glass has been cleaned, and
all switches and controls are cleaned and lubed. All incandescent
lamps have been replaced. The tuner has been calibrated. Every input
and output jack has been tested. The only significant "defects" are
imperfections in the paint on the left side of the chassis and some
minor imperfections in the paint on the rear of the glass panel...tiny
dark gray dots...but NOT bubbles or paint delaminations. It is hard
to photograph, but is you get very close, it exists. Very minor!!!

The unit will be shipped UPS, and I include insurance. It will be
lovingly packed in a box, inside another box. Nothing will be left to
chance. An owner's manual copy is included. Please check my feedback...
its perfect. I only sell the cream-of-the-crop of used equipment. The
unit is being sold AS-IS with no warranty.

Please feel free to ask any questions. Please give it a good home.

Two things:

1. I do not ship overseas, and...
2. The above words are not for anyone to "borrow" without
permission.

Thanks!
