Default FORD factory 6 DISC CD unit. Can I ad an AMP and SUB to the factory system while keeping the stock head unit??

To anyone out there who knows about, and is a fan of, the Ford factory
6 disc Cd head unit:

I just got a new 2005 F350 and I really really kinda want the FACTORY
head unit, 6 disc cd player.
I kinda like the design and simplicity, and ergonomics of the factory
unit, I like the way it looks, and think it also seems like a good
stereo with all the features I need.
Would anyone else agree??

Ok, so my question now is does anyone know if I can ad an AMPLIFIER,
and lets say a sub-woofer and a little bit more of a high end system
with punch, WITH this FACTORY HEAD UNIT??

I might buy one from a junkyard or ebay but am now thinking I'd really
like to also upgrade the rest of the system a little bit. But I like
the factory look.

I don't know if any of them have RCA outputs, or what??? Or how this could be done??

Can I hook up an AMP & SUB with a factory head unit in my new truck?

Thanks to anyone who can help me with this answer!

Ben

ps. I might not even want or need to change the factory speakers
either, but just want to ad a little more juice! You know what I mean!!

Yes you can do it. I have an '04 250 and I just added a Sony 400w mono
amp with High level inputs and a JL Audio stealth box for the center
consol. And I have the same head unit as you.
There are no RCA output from the radio. But I highly recommend changing
out the factory door speakers. THEY SUCK. I put a set of good 3way
6x8's in the front and a set of 5x7 2-ways in the rear.

I concur with Jerryp23. Just use a speaker lead and run that into your
amplifier, I have done it using the RCA inputs on the amp (the amp I had did
not have speaker-level inputs) and it worked fine. Connecting a subwoofer
to a stock HU is PARTICULARLY easy because the signal going into the amp
does not have to be perfect, for instance alternator whine and other induced
noise problems will not be noticed because a subwoofer plays only low
frequencies. Even stock head-units that use really weird speaker impedances
(like the Bose systems and their 16 ohm speakers) will usually work well
with a subwoofer and sub-amp.

Yes you can do this, its accully quite simple.
1. you need a signal converter that will connect to all your speaker
wires, and give you a set of pre amp outputs, those u will need to run
to your amp.

You will need to position your amp where ever your goin to put it, with
a ford f350 I'd recomend running it under the front pasenger seat. its
open and easy to work under. make sure u mount it close to the back so
you can scoot your seat up and see it all. and then u will have to run
your power wire from your batterie to the amp, then on the other side
of your truck u need to run your RCA cables from the back of the head
unit to the amp. You dont want to run your RCA cable close to your
power cable because in some cases it is known to cause distortion.

2. Now is the tough part, you have to run a remote wire. This can prove
to be tough. Ok here we go.
A. Pull the panel off from under your stearing wheel accessing the
ignition.
B. Define the positive cable.
C. Cut the positive and strip both ends back about 1/2 an inch.
E. You need to connect a wiar splitter, they are little silver
connecters, u need to put the positive running from your batterie to
the end that there is only one entrance hole, crimp it down.
F. Now take the other end of the ignition wire and connect it to
one of the openings on the other side. Crimp it down
G. Now take the remote wire (most of the time blue. it will come in
your wire kit you'll need to buy for the amp) and crimp it on the last
open port.

Now you will need to figure out a way to hide that wire and run it to
your amp, it will connect to the REM teminal.

Bottom line the hard part will be splicing a wire to use as a remote
(rem) for your amp, you dont have to do it to the ignition, but it is
one of the only things that turn on when your motor is started. You can
go through your fuse box but that is extremly complicating...

and u will also need to change out your front speakers, as they are
crap. they will distort and blow really easy... ohhh and I would
recomend gettin a high powered amp because with a stock c.d player in
the truck its goin to be dificult to get high power from the amp
because your not goin to wana turn ur bass up all the way it will blow
your other speakers. I would recomend a Rockford Fosgate Amp because
they are high quality, and most of them come with a 'bass controler'
its a real nice frequincy controler that you can mound under your dash.
its nice. My whole car is rockford. and apparently I know my stuff
because I got a 8000 dollar system. and Its all hookd up myself. I use
to work at an audio store lol... anyways. it should be easy, but u need
a high powered amp and a large sub. if you need any other help email me
at ...

If you need help buyin the right sub for your amp email me I can help
you with that 2.
good luck
