KRK Studio Monitors for a Desktop (Nearfields Passive and Active)
KRK Studio Monitors for home use behind a large desktop (head level, 3 or 4
feet distant), Powered sub below nearly center with a second Sub off to the left. I have a pair of KRK RoKits (6" driver, 1" dome) that sound really nice. I drive them with a hi-current MOSFET amp sufficiently. I also have pairs of M-Audio BX8's (8" driver, 1.5" dome, bi-amp powered) as well as an older set of NHT Zeros (passive). I have a 5.1 surround system powered by 4 BX8's, 2 BX5's and 2 SP5 subs in my living room. I found the BX8's to be nice but not nearly as good as the MOSFET amp/RoKits from KRK. I have an opportunity to obtain some KRK speakers. The M7000B's (8" driver, 1" inverted dome, passive) speakers (street price about $1100/pair) a set of V8's (8" driver, 1.5" dome, bi-amp powered - street price about $1000/pair) and/or ST-8 (8" driver, 1" dome, passive - street price about $300/pair) matched up with their best S12 powered subwoofer (street for about $1000). I have searched the web high and low and can not find much on them and certainly not the M7000 which appear to be very good. I have other speakers as well, my favorite are a set of Energy Pro22's from about 15 years ago, paid about $1100 for them back then. All in all my system in my home office is my primary listening place, so its become at least. I use an M-Audio Revolution sound card and play (collect) high quality MP3's that are surprisingly great sounding. I also have CD, Cassette, LP, DAT and VHS sources in the rack (courtesy of Winsted) but I currently archive more then 10,000 tracks. I have found that these Near Field type monitors can be quite amazing and forgiving in placement on a media desk. Unfortunately this has become the primary listening area. I find them to be extremely flat and very accurate, much like my headphones (HD-600's) and very revealing. I've grown accustomed to the sound and superior imaging in a near field. I also believe this old MOSFET amp adds warmth and flavor to the digital sound of the MP3's on nearfields. I'm interested in peoples experiences with Hi-Fi on the desktop or with Near Field Speakers. |
