Default russian 6H8N ( 6N8P ) = 6sn7

Hi!

How is the russian 6sn7, both in quality and sound?

The reason for asking is that I'we got a chance of bying a NOS/NIB bach from
the Novosibirsk plant.
But don't have any references to / expierience with them...

Best regards
Tonni

I am using several Reflektor plant 6H8C dated 04/1984
in my DIY projects and have nothing to object, except
maybe that for certain applications system matching
seems to be advisable. But on the other hand old,
I would do so with old American stock, too.

I used many Novosibirsk tubes: 6SN7, 6SL7, 5V4G etc. and I never was
disappointed. As Mr. Schlangen already pointed out, tubes show a wide
variability in their characteristics, and it is not so easy to get a matched
pair of triodes inside the same glass bulb: this happens more frequently
with Russian tubes, therefore it is sometimes better to get a bunch of them
and sort 'em out.
By the way: in the Golden Age of tubes, I remember that when the TV guy
called in at my father's house to fix our old B&W TV set, he just used to
shove in there the first tube he found in his junk bag, without ever caring
about brand, "matchedness" & so on, nevertheless the TV lit up and worked.
Ex-CCCP tubes are as good as any other but some "special quality" ones, and
usually the difference is in terms of durability and/or microphony, not
linearity.

Ciao

Fabio

Tonni,
Performance wise OK, had some where the pins weren't soldered correctly and
were therefore intermittent; that was a drag til I figured out what the
problem was and resoldered the pins.

I use them too and find them to be ok. A friend says that they are very
microphonic. The sound is good for me.

Ditto that.... Same is true for some EI tubes, especially their big bottle
6CA7.
