HELP needed with NAKAMICHI RX-202
"Terry" wrote in message oups.com... I just bought a Nakamichi RX-202 cassette recorder/player. The FF & RW won't work. I've been told it is a bad IDLER TIRE. Can someone point me to where this TIRE is? Thanks, Terry It's a helluva big job on this model. Better to pay someone who has experience on these. Mark Z. |

Ordinarily the idler tire is accessed fairly easily on Nakamichi decks of this vintage, but on the RX series, it is much more complicated because of the tape-turning mechanism PLUS the fact that the entire tape transport is mounted "upside down" to accomodate that mechanism. It really is a job only for someone who is experienced and qualified to work on Nakamichi decks. But if you must know where the idler tyre is, pretend that you have X- ray vision for a moment. If you look at the deck when there is no tape in it, concentrate on the black plastic tape hubs in the center of the cassette well. Using your X-ray vision, look through the rear wall of the cassette well, and you will see the idler tyre. It is located behind this black metal rear wall. It swings between the tape hubs and rotates against them to activate Play, FF, and RW functions. On the RX series, this idler tyre is pretty deep inside the deck, and only experienced hands should attempt a replacement. Trust me (and Mark Z.) on this one. |
