whats a jackhammer sub?
Hi. Sounds god-awful. http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/...jackhammer.jpg From the review. "MTX's JackHammer subwoofer: Billed as the subwoofer that "other woofers have nightmares about," the MTX JackHammer is a 2-foot tall, 320-pound behemoth that makes you proud to be an American. This 22" subwoofer handles 5,000 watts RMS (up to 10,000 watts peak), and features a 900-ounce (that's a little over 56 pounds, folks) magnet and a 6.5" voice coil. The JackHammer is set up for high SPL (Sound Pressure Level), but you can purchase an replacement cone assembly that allows you to switch quickly to Sound Quality performance (and you don't have to remove the speaker from its enclosure to make the switch). There was a constant crowd around this woofer throughout the show, jaws open, staring in awe as the woofer cone moved in and out. Sometimes excess is a good thing!" -- Cirric ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cirric's Profile: http://www.zerohurtz.com/member.php?userid=845 View this thread: http://www.zerohurtz.com/showthread.php?t=61249 |

If you have a trillion watts you are in a 747. This is BS that anyone in their right mind would ignore. You are being hyped. The LAWS of physics (not the local basshead) say that max power is volts x current (call Mr Ohm) and you have no way to exceed that. Get real and study for great sound. whats a jackhammer sub?
'Pimp my Ride' fitted one in a car and had to use an engine crane to lift it in! It had to be installed on a specially built subframe because it weighed so much! Good 'Pose' value but you couldn't safely use it ,It would seriously damage your hearing. They actually installed a 'decibel' meter in the same car. You could always try the 'Pimp' website. -- whitaxle ------------------------------------------------------------------------ whitaxle's Profile: http://www.zerohurtz.com/member.php?userid=850 View this thread: http://www.zerohurtz.com/showthread.php?t=61249 |

What did the Doc say the power was going to be in watts to that speaker ?? I'm sure he said it. http://www.just****inggoogleit.com/s...r%20jackhammer but there are perfectly good reasons to ask a group and not just do a random search, but by clicking on the "images" in google, one can find most objects even a non jackhammer. greg |

whats a jackhammer sub?
A jackhammer sub is a ridiculous "statement" piece that MTX built just
because they could. It is something they can haul around to shows and other special events and have people "oh" and "ah" at it's ridiculous size and weight (it REQUIRES a forklift for installation as not even two people can manage this monstrosity). It's a little like the new 108" LCD TV Sharp has just built. Though they have not announced a price it will likely be $70k+, yet there are many other cheaper options that will deliver the same thing (a high-end 1080p projector for instance). It was built just because they could do it, it get's people's attention at trade-shows, but in the "real-world", it is not all that practical. With the Jackhammer you have two issues that make it impractical A) it's size and weight make it difficult to install or find a place to install and a cutom enclosure MUST be built to support the rear weight (it is a 22" sub but what makes it impractical is that it is over two feet deep) and B) the power necessary to drive it to even HALF it's rated power would require a VERY large aftermarket alternator (or several), and several HUGE Class D amplifiers. And even then, I have heard it is not all THAT impressive. Again, the same results can be had for a fraction of the price. It is a statement piece, pure and simple. It is designed for trade-shows to demonstrate to the world just how creative and impressive MTX subwoofers can be. That's it.
