Comcast no longer supports Usenet - What are others using for access

One day my newsgroup access stopped abruptly with an error message identifying the authorization server as the source of the problem. I called Comcast and had a tech tell me how to do the setup. He was wrong. Called back and got a different tech who gave me another setup routine, and she was wrong too. Ultimately called five times and got different answers, including the typical "the server is down, we're working on it." Finally decided to check their online FAQ and found that the access protocol had changed. No announcement, just changed. None of the techs knew anything about it. I sent a letter to Comcast detailing what had occurred. Got a phone call from my local Comcast rep 2 weeks later, saying they were sorry. I asked him what they were sorry for. He said he didn't know, that he had been told by the national office to call. Another week later I got a "We're Sorry" card from a national Comcast rep. No note, no letter, just a generic card with an unreadable signature. They have a monopoly on cable where I live, which is very lucky for them. I think that's they only way they can possibly stay in business. I feel your pain, man! I had Comcast until about a year and a half ago when Verizon ran fiber optic cable for FIOS through my neighborhood. After waiting about 3 months (so I could get my more adventurous neighbors' experiences with FIOS) I was more than happy to tell Comcast to stick it where the sun don't shine. The only downside I've seen since then is that the "on demand"-type feature with Verizon isn't as good as it was with Comcast -- particularly music-related programming. But to me that was a small price to pay. Actually, I've been OK with Comcast. No major problems here. When Verizon showed up with fiber I looked at the deal (internet only) and for my use, it wasn't worth it. My Comcast bill has been coming down since Verizon brought fiber. I called and asked for a reduction and have been granted two in the last two years. I think I'm at $34/mo right now.
