Broken NAD CD Player
Hi All,
I've just moved house, and despite packing my CD separate in it's original box, it's now broken :-( It's a NAD C520 and when I put a CD in, the disc spins up, there's a couple of clicking noises then the display says "Err" and that's it. I've taken it apart (it's out of guarantee) and can't find anything obvious wrong. I just thought I check here to see if anyone has any inspiration, before chucking it in a skip ;-( Thanks, Adam Followups set to rec.audio.tech -- Adam Richardson Email me at: Carpe Diem |

Try cleaning the lens - perhaps a bit of dirt or packing has fallen on it.
Or the lens sled may have been knocked and has jammed its cogs. If you take off the lid you may be able to see the lens, motor and cogs that drive the lens assembly from the inside of the disk to the outside. See what happens when you load a disk or open and shut the drawer, and you might be able to see the problem and solve it by moving a toothed wheel or motor belt etc. Don't look directly into the lens as it is a laser and can damage your eyes. Check for any loose cables also. Gareth. "Adam" wrote in message ... See what happens when you load a disk or open and shut the drawer, and you might be able to see the problem and solve it by moving a toothed wheel or motor belt etc. I've had the case opened and everything /seems/ to be in working order - as far as I can tell all the mechanical mechanisms do what they should: the CD is loaded, the laser shuffles back and forth etc. There is a ticking noise, but I can't see what that is :-( I'll poke around a bit more, but I guess I might just have to give in and throw it away :-( Thanks, Adam -- Adam Richardson Email me at: Carpe Diem |

Why bother using apostrophes at all if you can't form the
correct possessive of "it"? The CD player is toast. Get over it. Martin |

Another possibility: if you didn't lock it, or if the box was dropped or jounced too hard, it's possible that the sled was slammed around hard enough to knock the optical system out of alignment. -- Dave Platt AE6EO Hosting the Jade Warrior home page: http://www.radagast.org/jade-warrior I do _not_ wish to receive unsolicited commercial email, and I will boycott any company which has the gall to send me such ads! |

OK, there's a whole table full of screws and I've just spent the last half hour trying to get the tray mechanism working again but guess what... It works!! Fantastic. Thanks for all the replies. :-) Adam -- Adam Richardson Email me at: Carpe Diem |

Hello, Adam.
It's always worth making sure all of the various connectors inside the player are pushed fully into their sockets. Also, has the disc table the CD sits on slipped down the spindle of the motor, in which case the laser may no longer be able to focus on the disc? Have you tried cleaning the lens (with the player switched off, to avoid looking into the laser beam or electrocuting yourself)? If you can't get it going, and you live in London, please feel free to sling it in my direction as I can always use spare parts. Cheers, Jon. You can still find them on the web in many places this week for $129. |

Hope that's clear - worked for me :-) |
