Default 500W RMS Stereo amp stable@1ohm??

Can anyone point me to some quality 2 channel amps that will deliver 500
watts per channel RMS into a 1 ohm load?

The only 1 ohm stable amps I've been able to find are mono sub amps.a

Well, the Audiobahn A1502DP is advertised as 450W X 2 into one-ohm loads,
but I've never used one, so I can't vouch for either the quality of the amp
or the accuracy of the ratings.

I think the problem you're going to run into is that the combination of
1000WRMS total power in stereo mode *and* 1-ohm stability is pretty rare.
The widespread availability of one-ohm amps is a relatively recent
development, and most of the manufacturers figure that the only thing
people will need 1000WRMS for is powering a subwoofer, so that's why you
see so many mono amps in that range but hardly any stereo amps.

What are you wanting to power with this amp?

I'm thinking of installing 3 sets of CDT 6.5" cast comp mids in my whip and
am kicking around the idea of driving them from one amp (wired in
parallel).

The old Rockford Fosgate punch amps were 1 ohm stable (I know this from
experience).

Yep, I was thinking about the older Punch amps, but I assumed he was
interested in modern amps, and anyway, I couldn't remember if any of the
Punch amps could put out 1000WRMS, even running a 1-ohm load.

The 800@2 one could do about 1000 watts RMS with the alternator
running... I just picked one up on ebay for $165 I got one new when
it came out for around $450 (which was a killer deal back then).

I think the older Kicker ZR series went to 1 ohm in stereo. If they didn't,
they sure could have - much like those Rockfords that were mentioned.

ESX Quantum series could go down to 1 ohm in stereo too.

Both had class AB amps that will deliver 500 watts per channel. However,
neither of them are made anymore.
