I have a quick question for anyone who might be familiar with the
Marantz PMD series portable tape recorders...

I recently purchased a new Marantz PMD221 portable tape recorder to use
for field work, and I have noticed that when I first press the Play
button there is a delay of about 2 seconds before the playback is
audible. There is at first no sound, then the volume quickly "fades up"
and sounds fine.

Is this normal? Have any of you noticed this behavior? The recorder
otherwise works perfectly.
