Default Installing SONY CDX-F5500 mp3 receiver to old Volvo or Mercedes?

Hi, I'm posting this for a friend of mine.

He owns a old Volvo 850 (1994) and his wife owns a Mercedes E300
(1993). The mileage is very low, so they plan to keep on driving them
for few more years before they trade them in, but they are thinking of
upgrading the audio in both cars but don't want to spend too much
money (need to be ably to play MP3 CDR/W discs)... So I recommended
the new SONY CDX-F5500 to them (see:
http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/4291). The questions a

1. Is there any other cheap but OK MP3 car players/receivers that they
should consider other than the SONY CDX-F5500?? What are the brand
names and model#?

2. As I recall, the Volvo and Mercedes seems to have a bit different
layout (dimensions) in terms of their audio panel when compared with
typical Japanese cars... Could both old Volvo and Mercedes
upgrade/install CDX-F5500 at all?

3. How much they are expecting to pay for the installation?

Thanks!
