Default question on Pioneer DEH-P4600MP

Hi. I am considering purchasing a Pioneer DEH-P4600MP.

However, I have one question about it... and was hoping somebody out there
reading this newsgroup has this stereo and can answer my question.

I was in the store today checking this particular stereo out. I brought
along some of my own CDs for testing. One of my CDs was a cd loaded up
with mp3 files (all in the root directory). I popped that cd in, and was
very happy with the sound and the display.

If I'm to listen to a cd full of MP3s, the shuffle (aka random) function is
very important to me. While checking out the DEH-P4600MP, I was able to
turn on shuffle mode. However, I noticed that when in shuffle mode, if you
hit the button to skip to the next song, it does not pick the next song
randomly, but instead simply goes to the next track on the disk.

Finally, my question: With this car stereo, is it possible to set the
random mode to where if I hit the button to go to the next track, it
will pick the next song randomly??

Thanks in advance,

Unfortunately not. Maybe with other brands.

I have a Pioneer DEH-5500MP, which I think operates in a similar
manner. If you have all the files in a single directory, the up
and down buttons will randomly pick the next song. If there is
more than one directory, it will randomly pick the next song out
of the next directory up or down.

I wish this unit would display the current play time when a track
is playing, rather than "RDM".

Thank you both for the replies, I really appreciate it.

Mark F:
If the P4600MP behaved as your 5500MP does, I could live with that.
However, while I was toying with the demo model in the store, I put in a cd
loaded with mp3 files, and put it into random mode
-- If I waited for a song to finish, it would choose the next song randomly
on it's own
-- if I hit the button to skip to the next track, would simply go to the
next track on the cd, and NOT choose the next song randomly
-- if I hit the up or down buttons, it would go right back to track #1 and
start from there (although RDM mode would still stay on).

The other mp3-cd deck they have in this price range (around $150) is the
sony CDX-R3300. I didn't like the looks of this one as well as the
Pioneer, but the random function does behave the way I want ('next track'
button chooses the next song randomly). I think I may go with this unit.
