Yamaha vs. Onkyo
Hi!
This question is for audio gurus Which av receiver is better - ONKYO TX-SR501 or Yamaha RX-V540? Any other suggestion in 300-350 price range? (ONKYO TX-SR601, Yamaha RX-V640, HK AVR225 etc.) I have a Panasonic that I bought few months ago. It sounds terrible, and am planning to replace it. It is badly designed too. So that I don't burn my fingers second time, I want some experienced opinions (about any brand other than Panasonic and Sony). Thanks. |

Yamaha vs. Onkyo
Shashi...
Read the Just out: Sound & Vision Magazine Dec2003 Pages 48-56.. S&Vis compare the: onkyo tx-sr501 panasonic sa-xr25s yamaha rx-v440 All above basically decent at $300 ballpark... Each Mfgr has the mid & higher end models too.. Not evaluated. Shashi wrote: Hi! This question is for audio gurus Which av receiver is better - ONKYO TX-SR501 or Yamaha RX-V540? Yamaha vs. Onkyo
I do warranty work for both and I'd take Yamaha. Onkyo's not bad, though.

I have a SA-HT400, which is basically a 5.1 version of the SA-HE70. I really like it. I used to buy nothing but Yamaha gear, until they priced themselves out of my range. I have SA-HE75. The dialogues are almost always flat, and so I have crank the volume really up to be able to hear'em, but then other sounds like gun fire, music etc., get way too loud. To tell you the truth, my 20dollar computer speakers cum amplifier sound much clearer than this piece of trash. Moreover, the radio seems to be designed by someone who never uses them. To tune to the presets, you need to remeber which channel you stored the station your tuning in to - rather than the actual frequency. The actual frequency (and sound) shows up a few seconds later...quite moronic. It assumes that you remeber your 30-40 presets! Thanks for the input. Regards, Shashi |

The build quality is superior to the Sony 995 (same price) and the sound is amazing - thought I have to give some of that credit to the speaker system. -- Brian Denley http://home.comcast.net/~b.denley/index.html |

Yamaha vs. Onkyo
I prefer the Onkyo, not the least of which is for its much more
user-friendly remote. My brother in law has a Yammy, likes the receiver, hates the remote. Also, he's had the receiver for two years and the lettering is starting to wear off the remote. I've not seen this problem with Onkyo remotes. I think the remote is important because it the one component you most use. If possible, try and spend some time playing with both remotes before you make a final decision. Michael wrote: I've found that Onkyo makes a wonderful receiver for the price. Our 595 is driving a set of very large matched JBL's and the unit is performing far beyond my expectations. Very clean and musical as well. OTOH, I've read almost nothing negative about Yamaha, so either one is a quality product. Michael |

Yamaha vs. Onkyo
I have an older Onkyo Pro Logic Receiver and a newer Yamaha RXV496??
Receiver. They both sound good, but I really hate the remote for my Yamaha. I think that many others feel the same way about the Yamaha's remotes. "Shashi" wrote in message om... Hi! Yamaha vs. Onkyo
I just chose a Yamaha RX-V1400, and one of the reasons I picked it was
because the remote was designed better than the competing models. Curiously, the remote for the RX-V2400 was not very well designed.
