Default Formatting a Memory Card for PCM-M10

Even though I have carefully read the manual, I cannot figure out how I
am supposed to format a 16GB SDHC memory card for my Sony PCM-M10
digital recorder. The manual on page 37 says, "Before recording, be sure
to...format the memory card on the PCM recorder so it contains no data."
Obviously I'm overlooking something. Please help me see the obvious!

Please see page 73 of the PCM-M10 manual under "Detail Menu".

It describes the position of the Format command in the menu structure.

I just love user's manuals that read like an advertising brochure..... "You
can do this", and, "You can do that" but they neglect to tell you HOW you
can do this or that.....

If you put the card into the recorder and scroll through the display
info, do you eventually come across Format?

Ok, that helped. I had to select the memory card in the Memory selection before
I selected Format in the Detail Menu. The first time I clicked on Format, it
wanted to format the internal menu. Of course it makes sense in retrospect.

Thanks!

Yes, but see prior post.

Yes, you do, but the PCM-M10 has a built-in (non-removable)
4 GB flash memory drive as well as a slot for a Memory Stick
or Micro SD removable memory card. There's a menu entry that
allows you to select the one you want to record/play from
(or tell it to switch to the other one if the one you start
recording to fills up). Whichever one is currently selected
is the one that will get formatted when you Format from the
menu. It's pretty clear in the manual, but you have to first
understand that there's not just one place where data is
stored.

The menu is in firmware that's in physically different
memory than what's used for recording, so formatting the
internal (recording) memory doesn't "erase the menu."

when you are inserting the SD card make sure to put it the opposite way in and then go to menu and click memory, then you will see the option of using a memory card. I used a 32 Gb card, but you can use anything.
