Morel imitations? Huh?
Okay. When you visit the Morel website (which is www.morel.co.il) it gives
you a warning about a Boston, MA based imitation company that is supposedly illegally using their logo. The Boston webiste (www.morelusa.com) has what appears to be the exact same products & prices that Madisound (an authorized DIY Morel distributor) has. I've heard that the morelusa company was a subsidiary of Morel and broke off. So I'm wondering, 1) What difference, if any, are there between a particular Morel driver of the same model number from each company, and 2) Anyone know what kind of legal actions Morel has taken about this? I hope I'm making sense. This is the first I've ever heard of this and until yesterday I always thought the actual Morel webiste was morelusa. Tony -- What's more likely? That an all-powerful mysterious god created the universe and then decided not to give any proof of his existence? Or, that he simply doesn't exist at all? And that we created him so that we wouldn't have to feel so small and alone. -Eleanor Arroway, Contact |

Not sure if it's still the case, but at one point they were both throwing accusations at the other. hehe By the way, Madisound has the morelusa products I believe. I've heard that the morelusa company was a subsidiary of Morel and broke off. I think you're right. So I'm wondering, 1) What difference, if any, are there between a particular Morel driver of the same model number from each company, Do they share the same models? I was under the impression that they did not. and 2) Anyone know what kind of legal actions Morel has taken about this? I think they can only if the Israeli company has US distributors. Is that the case? I hope I'm making sense. This is the first I've ever heard of this and until yesterday I always thought the actual Morel webiste was morelusa. I've actually never used the israel based products, but I've used the USA drivers. So I can't compare the two. I'd like to hear comparisons from anyone who has used both. |

Morel imitations? Huh?
Mark,
Several of the part numbers on the moreusa website corresponded to madisound site. I was under the impression that moreusa was the imitation company and madisound was the legit distributor. However, when I go to the Israeli site (morel.co.il) none of the numbers match the other two. However however (LOL) the madisound claims to be an authorized distributor and has a link to the morel.co.il site. So when you say that madisound has the morelusa products, I'm led to believe that both the morelusa AND the madisound site are imitations and the morel.co.il is the real thing. I'm confused! Tony What's more likely? That an all-powerful mysterious god created the universe and then decided not to give any proof of his existence? Or, that he simply doesn't exist at all? Morel imitations? Huh?
Mark,
I don't know if you've discovered this, but according to the morel.co.il website, it lists Madisound as the sole U.S. distributor for DIY and OEM products and Jason Scott Distributing, Inc. as the sole U.S. distributor for home and car audio. But I'm still uncertain as to why morelusa is getting away with imitating their products and using their logo. ?? Tony -- What's more likely? That doesn't appear to be true. Not one of Morel Israel's products appear
on Madisound's page. My guess is that Morel Israel is still treating Morel USA as a subsidiary - at least in their distributor list. Sorta like a China-Taiwan thing. Morel imitations? Huh?
If I recall the Morel company was founded in the UK. The UK parent
went under and in the ensuing splintering of the company both the Morel USA and Morel IL operations were granted exclusive rights to certain territories for OEM products. Morel IL I believe builds it own products based on their own designs whereas Morel USA builds products based on the original British designs by Morel UK. I could be wrong but that's how I remember it anyhow..... I guess the siblings are now rivalling at capturing the US market again. One note I've seen recently that Macrom is making a push into North America again. The old Macrom brand used Morel designed products....however I'm not sure if they were at the time US designed, British designed or Israeli designed. Also I'm not sure anymore what if any ties Macrom now has to either Morel USA or Morel IL.... Interesting questions to ponder for sure....I hope someone has some concrete info to add.
