Default Stereo Compressor/Preamp around $500?

A question for the community. I need a stereo compressor / mic-pre in the
$500 range. I'm looking at the various models from Focusrite or a combo from
Presonus. Does anyone have experience in this range and can recommend a
model or brand?
Thanks

Why?

Can you live without the compressor?

What kind of mike are you going to be using?

I use AKG, Shure and Rode. It will be used primarily for voice and guitar -
no drums. I've read allot about the whole never combine compressor / mic-pre
thing, but I thought that in the new age someone would have figured out a
decent low cost solution.

Not really. I'd suggest trying the RNP. You can get a compressor later.
