USB Mic Pre Comparison
Has anyone ever done any kind of comparison on the M-Audio Mobile Pre USB
and the Tascam US-122? If so is there a way to read about the results? Thanks. IS. |

USB Mic Pre Comparison
What do you expect? I'm expecting a fairly decent quality. I know "fairly decent" is relative. I need this preamp to go around town with my laptop and record street sounds and noises of traffic whizzing by and heavy duty construction site sounds that I need to include in a short video for a friend. Thanks. IS. |

They're both fairly inexpensive boxes with functional preamps. Neither will beat any outboard you're likely to use. The TASCAM (I haven't tried an M-Audio) will work fine with a reasonably hot mic but if you need all the available gain to record a quiet source, you'll find it a bit noisy. But I expect that you'd find the same results with any similar unit. Preamps are there for your convenience. If you care about preamps, you'll use an external one. And Ego Systems has a USB unit that only has line ins and outs. jb |
