Default speaker problem

Okay, I know very little about car audio so forgive my ignorance. This
problem may seem a bit strange, but I assure you I am not a troll.

I've been having trouble with my rear speakers (stock, '99 Sunfire) It
seems they only work when the car interior reaches a certain temp...say
over 85 degrees. I'm assuming it's a problem with the wiring... does
anyone have any suggestions as to how I could resolve this?

Thanks

Do you have an amplifer on them or do they go to the stock radio?
is it both rear speakers or only 1 speaker?
the best way to check if it's both speakers is when there working,
fade to sound on the head unit all the way to the back and then balance the
rear speakers left to right.

Default speaker problem

This is a very unusual problem. My guess (and this is ONLY a guess) is that
the interior temperature has nothing to do with this or is an ancillary
effect that "appears" these two events are related. Or, it's just a
coincidence. If anything, electronic components tend to be sensitive to
OVERHEATING, I have never heard of an UNDERHEATING issue (unless you live in
Antarctica or something).

The ONLY scenario I can imagine where these two events might be related is
if you have elements of the car's interior that expand in the heat
(cardboard perhaps) and complete a loose connection. Perhaps the glue used
in your speaker expands when hot and this completes the circuit.

My suggestion would be to first do as I. Care suggested and diagnose the
problem. Then if it is a faulty speaker, take a close look at the speaker
and try to find any loose wiring.

I'm sure an answer exists (most likely a loose wire) to this and you should
be able to fix it.

Default speaker problem

Are they the stock speakers also?
there are a few things that can cause these symtoms
the most likely is the rear speaker voice coils are bad. What happens is the
voice ciol wire breaks but the break is so close that higher tempature can
make them touch and start woking. you can test this problem when the
speaker(s) are not working, try pushing the speaker cone manually, sometimes
moving the speaker cone manually will make the connection and the speaker
will work while pushing the cone.
The other likely cause is bad solder connections where the wire harness
connects inside the radio. You can test this by wiggling the harness abd see
if the speaker come on.
