MP3 File Sizes
Remind me. With MP3, 128K Stereo is the same quality as 64K Mono, but 128K
Stereo is the same quality as ~96K Joint Stereo? What's the correlation, assuming all other factors are the same except separation. |

No it is not, not if joint stereo allows reducing stereo spread or reducing to intensity only. What's the correlation, assuming all other factors are the same except separation. The correlation is that the more correlated the two channels are, the less space they will take up in a mp3 file, but increasing the correlation comes from reducing spatial information. Allowing MS encoding can give you more quality at same bit-rate, but allowing intensity only will cost ya. Some mp3 encoders may know best, other allow user choices. Information lost in encoding is perpetually lost from the encoded file and can not be added later. Kind regards Peter Larsen |
