Exactly that... However, having a "classic" ST-70 in full-factory
dress (but with good quality, upgraded parts, properly biased and with
good tubes) is an excellent base-amp for experimentation with any of
dozens of variations, upgrades and alternate modes, an education in
itself.

They are common enough and cheap enough (with patience) that having
that one unit as-designed and another for experimentation is
incredibly useful.
