Default Alesis HD24 Fireport 1394?

I was curious if anybody have tried an unconventional way of using this
box:

Sticking in the caddy a regular FAT32 formatted IDE disk (rather than
HD24 FST disk) and then plugging the firewire into a PC, without
actually launching Alesis FST aplication.

Does the drive mount and can you see it on the PC?

That will work fine. It's a standard IDE to Firewire converter. What you
are really paying for is the application that allows a PC to see FST
formatting.
