University based programs are broader based, private schools are more
focused.

Ultimately, you'll need to visit the school, interview the faculty and
students, and decide if the program and facilities meet your
objectives.

Just about any school's equipment will be at least a few steps back
from the leading edge. This does not need to be an issue, but if it is
for you, many recording studios offer training and apprentice programs.
The studio based programs are more nuts and bolts compared to the
university programs.

Radio and TV stations, particularly public radio and TV also offer
apprentice programs. You should consider these programs in addition to
the formal training. While the apprentice programs can provide hands on
experience, their true value (in my opinion) is the personal contacts
that you will develop.
