Default Behringer or ?

A friend has asked me to build a 'portable' DJ system similar to one I built
for myself (which y'all are probably tired of my raving about). A question
about amp & mp3 players: Any opinions on Behringer equipment? I'm quite
satisfied with my current car amp and HU, but y'all have me wondering how
much better a 'real' amp will sound. I'd kinda like to keep the HU. The
system will run off a quality AC generator, or when available, house
current.
TIA

Behringer gear is resonably respectable. It's certainly far better than most
typical 'DJ' equipment.

Thanks Graham
I think my next consideration will be a small mixer - 2 mics, 2 line
level/tape in. Will the smallest Behringer serve ok? It'll just be to
announce songs, etc., and possibly a decent CD player. Through this entire
project I've tried to remind myself this isn't for critical listening. ;-)

The Behringer mixers are fine for most purposes, and excellent value for
money. However their smallest mixer has only one mic input, so you will want
the UB802, or new Xenix802.

Thanks
Guess it's time to go to the Behringer site and find a local supplier.

I just got a Behringer active crossover. It is made for pro audio XLR, but I
am using it with single ended RCA connectors and home stereo equipment. So
far, I'm smiling a lot. I like it!

I was hoping to do the same. Is there an adaptor for xlr to rca that I
should look for?

Either get some XLR male and female ends or get some mic cables and cut them
in half.

You will need 2 males for inputs and 4 females for outputs.

input: tip of RCA to pin 2 of the XLR
shield of RCA to pin 1 and 3 of XLR
output: tip of RCA to pin 2 of the XLR
shield of RCA to pin 1 of XLR (leave pin 3 floating)

The above wiring scheme was posted to this group by Walt, some time ago. It
works fine. There is actually enough gain on the input side to compensate
for the smaller signal coming from an RCA line level.

It's really neat to be able to sweep the center freq around with a twist of
a knob!

It's usually cheaper and easier to just use phone/RCA adapters plugged into
the TRS sockets. Most Behringer gear has these wired in parallel with the
XLR's.
I can't say in this particular case as I don't see a model number mentioned?

Carvin has a powered speaker that runs for 3 hours from a 12V car battery.
