New Truck-Need stereo
I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab. Thinking of the following stereo,
but need to ask a couple questions. AMP: SoundStream Xstream XTA480.4 (4CH x 60W RMS) Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P7700MP (2005 Model) Speakers: Front- Infinity Kappa 63.5i 61/2 in 3 Way Rear- Infinity Kappa 52.5I 5 1/4 in 2 Way No sub (yet) Is SoundStream a good Amp and value? Is an Amp going to improve the sound quality on a system like this, or is the Pioneer internal Amp good enough to run the system well? Is it a bad idea to mix 2 way and 3 way speakers? Since the Amp is 4 channel, if I decide to add a 10 in sub at a later date, can I run the fronts off 2 of the channels, the sub off 2 channels (bridged) and the rears from the head unit internal amp? I will be ordering all componets online (the store prices in Alaska are outrageous compared to online prices) and need to get it right the first time. Any suggestions appreciated. Did you listen to the Kappas? Do you like them alot? I am not a fan of
the Kappa series. I owned a set of the 5x7's and they caused ear fatigue very quick. Thats my ears though. Give a listen to a ton of speakers. JL, Boston Acoustics, etc. The head unit is a good choice. Does that model have time correction? Something I would not be without. Id leave the rear speakers alone. Stockers are ok for rear fill. |

Unfortunately, listening to a lot of speakers isn't really an option.....
there are 3 car audio stores where I live. My options are fairly limited (for listening before buying). Pioneer, Kenwood, Crystal, Infinity, Earthquake, and Alpine are the range of choices I have found. I chose the Infinity's bases on recommendations from friends. I was surprised at the sound quality of the Crystal's (very crisp high's), but they seemed to lack the bass of some of the others. Fitz |

Did you like the Infinty Reference series? IMO they have a better
tweeter thats softer on the ears. You won't get a lot of bass out of any small speaker. |

I have an XTA 480.4 in my JGC and it has worked great so far. Had it
about 9 months and have had no trouble. I used it for a while to drive my front speakers on ch. 1 & 2 and 2 subs and the other two channels. Seems to be pretty reliable. However, it is SoundStream's "low" end. They have the Van Gogh series and another one I believe. Plus they were bought by Power Acoustic, so a Soundstream isn't exactly what it was 10 years ago. Some people don't like them because of this. I ordered mine online also before I knew all of this. I just bought it on the name Soundstream that I remembered from years gone by. But so far, it rocks hard and doesn't seem to struggle even at the 2 ohm load it's rated for. Others may have a different opinion but I say if you get a good price with a warranty, go for it. DA |

You won't get a lot of bass out of any small speaker. No, you don't ever buy door speakers based on bass. Generally they are filtered at around 35 - 50 Hz anyway, so the majority of them don't ever even see a low bass Hz. And a good thing too, they are built for accuracy, not range. bass makes door speakers go boom. -- Uneasylistening ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Uneasylistening's Profile: http://www.caraudioforum.com/vbb3/me...p?userid=33488 View this thread: http://www.caraudioforum.com/vbb3/sh...d.php?t=213500 CarAudioForum.com - Usenet Gateway w/over one million posts online! |
