Default Expensive carts often more colored sounding, less neutral

I'm convinced now more than ever that some of the very expensive
carts out there have a LOT of coloration and that that's what the
buyers like. Demonstrating this may be tough, but one approach may
work like this: Get a turntable, perhaps a recording lathe, and mount
on it two tonearms so that the two may play the sa,me record in the
same groove, one after the other. Use a good ADC and digitally offset
the two tracks in time since the two styli will be at fixed distances
apart and therefore once the differential in time of play is nulled
out it will stay that way. The two carts can then be nulled digitally
and a difference signal produced.

There night be a better way but I can't think of it.

What cartridges have you heard? *On what turntables?

*I've heard a couple of Koetsu and they aren't flat.

Who brought up Koetsu?

* I did.

So there you go again with your inadequate sample size. Ever measured
a Lyra?

Sound ok, but not something I'm interested in.
I think my OC9 is far more revealing and true to the
recording.

The OC9 is a nice cartridge that measures very well. I prefer the
Dynavector 17D3, which also measures just as well and is a touch more
dynamic.

Koetsu doesn't even publish FR and a lousy match
for my TT anyway needing a high mass arm.

So you don't want a Koetsu. We got it. I have a Clearaudio, BTW.

Here's a Fremer review and you'll note that S'puke avoids testing
the cart.

Hard to give Fremer any credibility with silly comments on the obvious
like
this.

"Speaking of which, I tried both with the preamp set to 47k ohms but
preferred 100 ohms. In most cases I still think a moving-coil
cartridge needs to be loaded down to prevent ringing. Ultimately, you
have to let your ears be the judge—but don't confuse distortion
(underdamped ringing) with spatiality. "

Makes one wonder how dumb and technically illiterate that marketplace
is.
If I was a reader I'd be insulted by the implication of such
stupidity.

You should write for them and set them straight.

* LoL. *I long ago realized that much of the high-end market does not
want to be set straight. *They prefer to believe in magic. *It's more
understandable than technology
to them.

Your inability to write was a factor as well, I'll bet.
