Higher-than-standard pre-out voltages are a just a marketing gimmick. The only advantage is a theoretical increase of 3 or 4 dB in the signal-to-noise ratio, and the S/N ratio for any modern head unit is already so high that you'd literally never hear the difference. In fact, you should probably ignore S/N ratio entirely when comparing head units. The difference between 90 dB and 102 dB is inaudible. Same with damping factor for amplifiers. I wish the manufacturers would start just leaving S/N ratio and damping factor off of their spec sheets entirely. The days where those numbers were low enough to make an audible difference are long gone. Listing those two specs an modern equipment does nothing more than give the "more-must-be-better" numbers geeks something to masturbate over. -- Scott Gardner "I've been accused of vulgarity.
