Speaker Arrays - completed project
I wrote on here a few months back about building a pair of multi cheap
driver speaker arrays, to use with my 2A3 amps. I decided on closed baffles as opposed to open, so they would be less huge, and ended up with two speakers, each containing 3 drivers connected in series. The baffles are made of 5/8" particle board, and are 23" tall x 5 "deep x 6 " wide The drivers are 4 ohms, elliptical, about 4" x 6", arranged vertically in a three unit line array. resulting in a 12 ohm overall impedance, which works well with the 16 ohm tap of my amplifier. The enclosures are partially filled with fiberglass insulation. The sound is good - the speakers are MUCH more sensitive than my normal (91dB/W) speakers, and play very loud with my 2A3 SE amplifier. The bass is somewhat rolled off, although I suspect placing them against the wall will help. It's almost possible to forget that the drivers cost $3.50 each, when listening to the new system! |
