Competition Power Rating
I just saw this stats for an amp:
source: http://tinyurl.com/je5r --------------- snip --------------- Model: SH-1 Channels: 1 CH Frequency Response: 10Hz ~ 300Hz ±1dB Rated Power: 14.4 Volts DC T.H.D.: 0.1% 4 Ohm RMS: 2000W x 1* 2 Ohm RMS: 3000W x 1 1 Ohm RMS: 4000W x 1** S/N Ratio: 100dB Input Sensitivity: 0.16 ~ 4 Volts Damping Factor: 700 Efficiency: 69.10% Fuse Requirement: 120 x2 Amp Power Supply: 11 ~ 16 Volts DC Low Pass @ 18dB / oct: 40Hz ~ 300Hz Sub-Sonic: 10Hz ~ 100Hz @ 24dB Remote Bass Knob: Yes Bass Boost: No Dimensions (L x W x H): 15" x 8 13/16" x 6 3/4" Weight: 23.5 lbs. * H-1: 300W x 1, SH-1: 600W x 1 (Competition Power Rating) ** For Competition Use Only --------------- snip --------------- They are claming an amp at 4-ohms is considered a 600 watt amp in competition? How can this be? How are amps rated in competition? Sam -- See my links engine for a collection of sites that might be of interest to you. Competition Power Rating
Man, those look like repackaged Harrison Labs amps (and if they are, I'd be
EXTREMELY wary of the output ratings...) In answer to your question though, some competition sanctions, like USACi for example, are broken into power classes. Amps are valued at their 4-ohm bridged rating. The amp in question would put you in the 301-600watt power class (unlimited number of woofers) - though in actuallity - you'd have 1500watts at your disposable... Up until a big rule changed this season, a person could compete in the same class with say 6 Kicker XS100's and have in excess of 6000watts against your 1500. They now have a limitation on the number of amps you can have in a given class - but manufacturers will just find a way around it as they have in the past, which is generally why theres so much frustration directed toward such sanctions... dbDrag on the other hand is based on the number of woofers and is a much more honest 'sport' in my opinion... n8 I just saw this stats for an amp: source: http://tinyurl.com/je5r --------------- snip --------------- Model: SH-1 Channels: 1 CH Frequency Response: 10Hz ~ 300Hz ±1dB Rated Power: 14.4 Volts DC T.H.D.: 0.1% 4 Ohm RMS: 2000W x 1* 2 Ohm RMS: 3000W x 1 1 Ohm RMS: 4000W x 1** S/N Ratio: 100dB Input Sensitivity: 0.16 ~ 4 Volts Damping Factor: 700 Efficiency: 69.10% Fuse Requirement: 120 x2 Amp Power Supply: 11 ~ 16 Volts DC Low Pass @ 18dB / oct: 40Hz ~ 300Hz Sub-Sonic: 10Hz ~ 100Hz @ 24dB Remote Bass Knob: Yes Bass Boost: No Dimensions (L x W x H): 15" x 8 13/16" x 6 3/4" Weight: 23.5 lbs. * H-1: 300W x 1, SH-1: 600W x 1 (Competition Power Rating) ** For Competition Use Only --------------- snip --------------- They are claming an amp at 4-ohms is considered a 600 watt amp in competition?
