I took a look at eBay's rules as you suggested, and there are two problems with your statement above. The first problem is that eBay doesn't even mention the term "usenet" any where in their rules, at least their search function says something to the effect that no information is available on "usenet". They do however have a lot of rules relating to "spam" on other venues, which assuming the anti "spam" rules apply to "usenet", raises the interesting question of what the formal definition of "spam" might be? One man's "spam" is often another man's treasure, in the case of "usenet" it appears that people are prone to call most any post they don't like "spam". Number one, it's not spam. It's not "mass or bulk." It's not commercial, it's a private eBay auction. It might be abuse depending on the group, but where I am in rec.audio.marketplace it certainly isn't. In rec.audio.tubes it is not uncommon to see a FS or FA ad as long as it is a private person, not a commercial ad. And lastly as far as the antique radio group, it's on topic there and I would imagine that private, non-commercial ads grace that group from time to time as well, I've not read the charter or FAQs for that group. So, will you be reporting your own abuse as well? |

One man's "spam" is often another man's treasure, in the case of "usenet" it appears that people are prone to call most any post they don't like "spam". Regards, John Byrns Exactly, an ad for a private person selling something he owns, used to a group that does not allow any ads at all is not spam, it's abuse. Now that said the charter as quoted does not forbid ads. Commercial ads to Usenet are abuse anyway whether the charter says so or not unless the group is for that, ie: rec.audio.marketplace. In the groups I attend it is generally accepted that an individual can offer something for sale, though as a general rule it's not something that happens all the time. If it does happen and you are selling stuff every week, you've crossed the line into more commercial than private. That is generally decided by the regular member of whichever group. If the people of a group want all ads banned from that group, they should officially ad that to the charter/FAQs and said document needs to be posted regularly to the group. I might also note that it takes more than two complaints to action any account, even an eBay account. |

Interesting, you seem to be implying that people can effectively modify a groups charter by simply posting a FAQ regularly that includes the rule(s) they believe should be in effect for the group. We can get more results yelling at eBay posts than disturbing posters that come and go at their leisure. That's about it. There will be a Frankenstein to curdle our blood in a couple days' time. |

The only thing that eBay will be worried about is if it is abuse, spam is abuse, an ad placed in a group that does not allow ads is not spam, but is abuse. But one will have to prove said abuse ie: provide them a copy of the FAQ/charter and it will be required for a number of people to complain. One or two complaints will not get an account actioned since we all know there is always someone who is displeased by most anything anyone says. |

Now if someone posts a private ad for different stuff every three days or even every week, that becomes abuse. |

It goes by the official charter of the particular group. In the Mustang group a private owner can mention his car for sale. A dealer can not. I can offer a set of headers for sale, Texas Mustang and Resto can not. There are also general Usenet FAQs on the web that iterate what is and is not appropriate. Also, keep in mind how many minimum wage clerks on the other end of eBay's abuse address have even heard of Usenet or know what it is. I called to report an outage to Cox and it took 3 people before I found one that had the first clue what I was talking about. |

I reported the spam and posted it to the newsgroups at the same time. The OP stands to profit from the sale. That is commercial. It is spam. Then all the posts that we see here from Mark, Gary, and Bill are also "spam". I guess it is time to run them off! Regards, John Byrns People like Mike Terrell are the reason it takes at least several complaints before an abuse desk will even start to consider it as abuse. If anyone so desires I can get an actual abuse rep to weigh in on this, but I know how it would be handled at $(day job) even though I am not the actual handler. |

ANyway, what is a "macIntosh" 12AX7 tube?.........A tube that was pulled out of a Macintosh preamp I guess....ANd I see it's a mono C8 preamp so the tubes are probably sixty years old!.....OOOOOOOk..... I imagine it is a tube that says McIntosh on it, and doubt it is more than 40 years old. If it is 30-40 years old and unused, then it really doesn't matter. |

This amp was popular in the early fifties, perhaps even late 40's....which
means it could be 60 years old.... "WindsorFox" wrote in message ...
