Will a Focusrite Saffire from the US work in Australia? Can i changepower supply unit?
Just wondering about power supply to the Focusrite Saffire if it will
work in Australia i think it comes with a 12v AC, 1.5A external PSU (Power Supply Unit) but is that from 110/120 dc to 12v AC... and if so could i replace it with a 220/240 down to 12 AC PSU? Any help would be great thanks! |

Even if you use a stepdown transformer in Australia, I am sure your transformer based PS will run much hotter for the same load because of greater core losses on the lower frequency. Xl = 2 pi f L shows how frequency influences Inductive reactance. - Sure there's a lot more to transformers than that; but you will end up with a higher magnetising current on 50 Hz and more heat generated by core loss. For those who sugessted Switch-mode, I doubt you will get a Switch mode PS outputting AC. Just try the Australian distributor and ask them to ship one to your Australian contact address, then you can be sure that is is compliant with Australian standards with the correct mains plug, unlike something you buy in Europe. |

Of course it will work in Australia (with the appropriate 220-240volt
supply). The thing is made in England where the power supply is the same as Oz, it's only the US that is different! wrote in message ... Any help would be great thanks! Something is not correct here.....in your original post you state that the PSU is "110/120dc to 12v AC" and this in itself does not make sense. The Specs on the website for the Saffire does say input by Firewire or 12v AC ,1.5 A. The Saffire LE, however, has input via Firewire or 12v DC, 0.7A !.Why transform to AC and then have the DC transform internally at higher cost and weight? Looks like a web error. |

Please read more carefully before posting such opinions. Note that the unit in question is a North American version with a 120V power supply. The planet does not revolve around 240V territories (or 120V, either.) Additional points off for top-posting. wrote in message ... Yes, although both the UK and Australia use different nonstandard plugs, so you STILL ought to get a wall-wart with the Australian plug on it. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. Another "top post" - it was not an "opinion", the "unit in question" was
made in the UK where ALL Focusrite Saffires are made. It's only the power supply that is a yank version, so silas just has to get rid of the yank power supply and replace it with the proper one for the country of use. And don't be such a pompous bore, Richard. "Richard Crowley" wrote in message . .. "Easy FM" wrote ... Of course it will work in Australia (with the appropriate 220-240volt supply). In Australia this is known as the rite of manhood. (or womanhood if your nuts all off). |

Of course you could run a lead from the secondary ignition (spark pluts) and really light your fire. Gerry |
