And do you know about bridging amps yet? big grin

Hey buddy!
Where ya been???

As far as bridging goes... ;-)

You dont see everyone saying bridging an amp halves the
impedance anymore do you..??

Used to be it was EVERYWHERE!!!!
Even many manufacturers printed it ....

After I got through with everyone, they all seemed to
learn thier lesson... You never hear it anymore...
I was relentless and it worked!

Good to see ya!

It's a long story... First, the local SQ competition scene collapsed.
The population isn't big enough to support both SQ and dB Drags.
Then I got involved with an IT project that took all my waking hours.
The plus side of that was that I made enough to pay off the mortgage and
not have to work last year. I spent the time at home with my 2 young
children (now 4 and 6 yo), on the advice of a good friend who had worked all
the hours he could building up his business only to wake up and realise he
had a strange teenager in the house - he'd totally missed his oldest child
growing up. And he was right, it's intensely rewarding to be a full-time
parent at this stage. Later on they'll start to develop their own life and
be happy to see less of me, but I now have some priceless memories that'll
bring a smile to my face for the rest of my life.

I haven't looked lately. Are you sure you want to open that can'o'worms
again? grin Or shall we move on to the merits of grounding to chassis
versus returning to battery terminal? I seem to recall we did that one
pretty well to death when I was here last time, and your name is associated
with several other occurrences of the topic over the years. This place
needs a really good FAQ, so whenever a FUDpucker (or whatever his name is)
turns up you can all shout in unison, "RTFFAQ!"

Good to see ya!

Thanks. This place has changed, but the same can be said of many Usenet
newsgroups. Take a look at rec.audio.opinion sometime - it ought to be
renamed rec.politics or something. Usenet newsgroups are generally a dying
area, many ISPs no longer offer newsgroups. People prefer chat channels and
web forums for some reason. Personally, I find the signal-to-noise too low
on chat channels and the interfaces too slow and clunky on web boards.
They're OK if you're a newbie but if you really want to speed-read (and read
anywhere) then Usenet and a good offline reader is the way to go. It won't
matter so much in a few years when there's free wi-fi on every street
corner, but at this moment working offline is still neccessary.

Unfortunately there are a number of web boards which offer access to
usenet and rec.audio.car. Just like in the old days with AOL and WebTV,
this has allowed immature noobs without the wherewithall to configure a
newsreader to access this group, for better or worse - usually for worse.

Man...what a run-on sentence.

I did notice tonight after playing around a bit that the noise is much
louder when the HU is turned off.

They said bring it back tomorrow and they'll troubleshoot it.

I brought it back; couldn't leave it for the day on Friday so he only
had an hour to play with it. He did stop the noise when the radio is
off though - said the turn on sensor wire (or whatever it's called) on
the HU was incorrectly hooked up to the ignition and so when the radio
was off, the amps were still on. But still didn't solve the noise
yet. He did run a short ground to see what happened and it made the
noise louder.
I'll bring it back on Tuesday and leave it so he has the day to try
more things.

Tried everything on the FAQ today, the only thing that remains is to swap
out the amp; so he's ordering another 450/4 for me and we'll swap it out.
