Default Arny vs. Galo on SACD

I was reading the June 2008 AudioXPress and I found Gary Galo's AES column
quite interesting. He says:

" Out of 554 trials there were 276 correct answers-no better than "coin
flip" results. To those of us who have recorded in both high-res and
CD-standard digital, the conclusions seem ridiculous".

And:

"On my own equipment, the differences between SACD and CD layers are
readily audible. Yet the conclusion of Meyer and Moran is that "Our test
results indicate that all of these recordings could be released on
conventional CDs with no audible difference". In their view, "Further
claims that careful 16/44.1 encoding audibly degrades high resolution
signals must be supported by properly controlled double blind tests".

Apparently they believe that recording engineers such as Tom Jung are
simply deluding themselves. Perhaps we also need a series of ABX tests to
verify whether there are any visible differences between NTSC and HDTV".

Gary Gallo seems to be unaware or disrespectful of other experienced
recordists, like George Massenberg and Bob Katz, who weren't the least bit
surprised because they been there and done that some years earlier.

BTW, who is Gary Gallo to speak authoritatively?

And:

"On my own equipment, the differences between SACD and CD
layers are readily audible.

It would appear that Gary Gallo is not much of a practitioner of reliable
listening tests.

Yet the conclusion of Meyer
and Moran is that "Our test results indicate that all of
these recordings could be released on conventional CDs
with no audible difference". In their view, "Further
claims that careful 16/44.1 encoding audibly degrades

One only uses DBTs if one is ready to put one's beliefs to a scientific
test.

Apparently they believe that recording engineers such as
Tom Jung are simply deluding themselves.

I believe the more relevant word is "illuding".

Perhaps we also need a series of ABX tests to verify whether there are
any visible differences between NTSC and HDTV".

Straw man argument noted.

I'll arrange my work schedule so that the
next one will be $1.25 million.
And I'll take the relocation assistance, too.

Today's owner wanted $2.5 million for his horse farm.

*You're an exploiter.

*If you arranged it.

Who did I exploit?
My previous eminent domain house purchase was over $300k
and an additional $255K in relocation assistance.
But that was maybe 5 years ago.
Before I retired.
I don't work for the gov anymore.

All the time, but I'm free to ask people to do stuff I won't do
myself.

They do your DBT's for you.

You are not.
