Default wireless lapel mic and small pa for wedding celebrancy

Hi,

My friend is starting out as a wedding celebrant soon and wants a
wireless lapel mic, and a small PA to use at small-medium weddings.
Some of these will be outside so a mic that was overly sensitive to
wind would be a problem. Any ideas? She doesn't want to spend over
AUD1000 (~USD750) if possible, so second-hand stuff might be
appropriate. I had a little look on the net and found these for a
start:

* gemini wireless lapel mic and reciever AUD400
http://www.venuemusic.com.au/Products.asp?ProdID=8014
* dB basic 100 powered speaker AUD600
http://www.venuemusic.com.au/Products.asp?ProdID=7846

Any thoughts/advice from the experts?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

a system from Anchor audio can be had with the wireless built in. the
"Liberty" might be a good choice.

Don't do it.

Really, don't do it. Cheap wireless is not good and good wireless is
not cheap. You will not find anything reliable in that price range and
the results will be worse than nothing at all.

Any thoughts/advice from the experts?

Why the hell do you need PA at a wedding? People have been doing it
for thousands of years without any sound reinforcement.

OK, what do you consider the price range for reliable wireless? What
kinds of issues could she expect from the cheaper stuff?

The wireless mic/PA was her idea of what she needed (she's new at
this.) Because celebrant weddings are secular, they're in lots of
different locations and I would assume she wants to cover all bases.
Church weddings are fine because the acoustics are better and they
often have PAs nowadays anyway. I'd say most of her weddings will be
in gardens, parks, halls, etc..

Thanks

Starting around a thousand dollars or so for a used pack and receiver,
you can get the higher end Sennheiser line, maybe a used Vega or Lectro.
IF you are careful about selecting frequencies and IF you are careful to
check it out before and IF you aren't in a place where HDTV is going to
change around the UHF TV allocations any time soon, you can get the stuff
to work.

Cheap wireless will give you interference headaches. You do not want the
wireless system breaking up in the middle of a wedding.

Add that to something like a used JBL EON powered loudspeaker. It will not
give you a very natural vocal sound, but usually that isn't what people want
when they use PA these days. They want it to sound like a PA system.

So select a corner where there's a nice reflective surface behind her
and preferably above her. If it's important for the crowd to hear, select
a location where the crowd can hear.

If this is for the MC and not for the bride...consider using a hand
held mic instead of a lav...

It will be much easier to get it to work well.

or a headset mic
a lav is problematic even under ideal conditions
I would look at a powered speaker like the mackie 450
