Default Creative Inspire T3000 2.1 system - bass TOO ****ING LOUD

I looked for a 2.1 system because I don't have the room for 5.1 and
the likes. I read some good user reviews online on the Inspire T3000.
So I bought them for 40 euros. It has two knobs, one for volume and
one for bass level. Even if I turn the bass level all the way down
(which means that the subwoofer is practically off) I find the bass
too loud. Yes, the bass from the sattelites.

Yes, this is the way most cheap multimedia speakers are. If you listen
carefully, you'll find that's a lower midrange boost and not real bass.
It's there to fool your ear and make you think you're hearing bass when
the speaker actually has no bottom end.

I don't think I can return this set, but I think I can't listen to it
if I don't turn the bass down even more using the equalizer on winamp
or something.

You can try plugging up the vents. That will make the cabinet resonance
smaller, higher frequency, and wider. It may make it sound lousy in some
other way, but it won't hurt to wad up a paper towel and stuff it in there
to see.

Any other people using this set? Opinions?

Hey, what do you want for forty bucks? You should be lucky you get any
sound at all. Welcome to the wonderful world of shoddy consumer electronics
crap.

I know they're cheap, I didn't get them to have the biggest meanest
clearest sound on Earth, just so I can listen to my music without
the big distortion my old speakers had. These can go louder without
distortion but the bass is disturbing and I think it tends to make
it "harder" to hear higher frequencies. For example, when listening
to a rock recording you can feel the bass and some of the drumming
being more powerful than the guitar which I think should not be the
case. And this is with the "bass level" knob turned all the way
down, too!

You mean I should put a paper towel inside the sattelites? Thanks
for the tip.

It's 40 euros, so it's more like 50 bucks :-) Again, I didn't
expect some great sound, but I'm really surprised by the fact that
listening to music almost requires you to turn the bass all the way
down (and even more using a software equalizer). This is a curious
design and I wanted to hear from other people who are using this
set, what do they think of this.

Also, are ALL cheap ($50- $70) 2.1 systems like this?
