Re-installing PT8 LE dilemma?
Hi guys, Rick Novak back again, long time no talkie! As usual, I'm
here begging for help after beating my head against the wall for hours at DUC, etc. Please forgive my stupidity if I've overlooked something basic and obvious; I'm getting frustrated and figured someone here could easily point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance! I recently had to re-install my Leopard OSX 10.5.8 operating system in my iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (4 GB SDRAM) computer. Everything is up and running nicely again now except for ProTools; the most important thing! It was working fine previously, using PT LE v8.0.1 with an original Mbox-1, and WAVES plug-ins v8.0.0, (WaveShell v8.0). I've run the "ProTools Pref and Database Helper" many times, Disk Utility "Repair Disk Permissions", re-booted, updated the iLok, etc, but I can't get ProTools to open properly. It starts fine, loads the plug-ins, but then crashes every time, saying "The application ProTools LE quit unexpectedly." I suspected something has been updated too far. I'm using QuickTime v7.5.5, Safari v5.06, Final Cut Pro v5.1.4, iTunes 10.5.3, SampleTank v2.5.3, and they were all very happy and stable before I re- installed the OSX 10.5.8. I believe my original MBox-1 won't work with OSX 10.6 or higher, nor with PT9. There's a PT LE v8.0.5 download available; perhaps that's what I need? Or have I already gone too far with some update? Thanks again for coming to the rescue! Cheers, Rick. |

Are these the _actual_ versions that were there previously? (what does he mean with _actual_, well I mean the very same downloaded files!) I believe my original MBox-1 won't work with OSX 10.6 or higher, nor with PT9. This is no good, you may have hurt also your head, believing doesn't "do", verify. You have not rebuilt and re-established status quo ante if you have updated and the installation sequence may matter. I always worry on a pc whenever quicktime is involved. Since this is a productivity machine the productivity software goes on first after the OS and - as a general rule - not much, if at all anything. Yes, I know - the brochure says that one box can do it all. Being an offsetprinter by trade, albeit now in that regard retired and now Systems Engineer, I can assure you that there is NO truth verification, nor any spell checker of any kind, in neither printing ink nor printing press (yet). Thanks again for coming to the rescue! Dunno if I did, but at least I tried. Cheers, Rick Kind regards Peter Larsen |

The problem was that my original Mbox won't work with anything after PT LE v8.0.5. I had a very hard time finding that info from AVID. So I had to de-install v8.05 and put in v 8.01 again, and then find my original authorization codes. Finally it's all running. Back to music! Cheers, and thanks again! Rick. |
