Music for SET Systems as Designed by Andrew Jute McCoy
As I am striving to lighten things up around here, this is a hoot even
on a decent system. But absolutely IDEAL for the creation of our resident ultrafidelista as it is a perfect match for performance and quality. http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk/web/...a?OpenDocument Peter Wieck Wyncote, PA |

In a silly attempt to kill off another flamewar, I trimmed his name out of the header. If what Andre writes upsets you so much, don't bother responding, or even reading, his posts. That being said, SET amps are not my thing as well, or I just can't build a decent one. Oh well. -- "All amps sound alike, but some sound more alike than others". |

I once built a SEPP headphone amp with ECC88/6DJ8. This was for a friend, I don't like wearing headphones myself. I'm still looking out for a pair of Jecklin Float or Stax electrostatics, and build an appropriate tube driver for that. Dynamic headphones never attracted me, and even wearing a Stax gets tiresome after some time. I'd rather listen to good speakers at low volume. -- "All amps sound alike, but some sound more alike than others". |

I have a good friend who more-or-less must use headphones due to a specific type of hearing loss, otherwise he would blast his neighbors from their beds at those hours when he most listens to music. I keep a reasonably adequate pair of Koss electrostatics for those times that I do not want to wake the neighborhood or scare the horses, and a decent pair of Sennheisers for similar use with another system. What is SEPP? Single-ended Push-Pull? Contradiction-in-terms? Peter Wieck Wyncote, PA |

I do admit to a certain amount of concern running an OTL design into headphones. But the Good Lord hates a coward as the expression goes. Peter Wieck Wyncote, PA |

I can't be bothered with a mickey mouse nuisance like Worthless Wiecky but this is interesting: That being said, SET amps are not my thing as well, or I just can't build a decent one. Oh well. so I'll address it in another post. Andre Jute Zero rewards for worthless attention-seekers -- "All amps sound alike, but some sound more alike than others". |

Arny. I am delighted, but rather perplexed to find myself in agreement with you:-) I have spent several pleasant evenings at the home of a professional cellist (a Russian) listening to the Shostakovich Quartets on his Reznekov SET amp. This has been a most wonderfully lifelike musical experience, and these recordings sounded the better than on any system I have encountered so far. Just out of interest, I took with me some big band jazz (Ellington at Newport) and just a few minutes listening made it clear that SET could not do justice to this kind of music. My experiences with SET have been positive enough to make me want to build one at some time in the future. Regards to all Iain |
