Default Logitech Z-680 Speakers to an Onkyo TX-NR801 Receiver

I'm trying to hook up Logitech Z-680 speakers to an Onkyo Tuner Nr801
receiver and getting no sound through the logitech speakers. When I
select the input button in the SoundTouch Control Center I get a
message saying Input: Optical No Digital Data.

I went to Radio Shack and got a Digital Gold Series Cable (PCM Digital
Audio Cable #15-2403)and hooked it to coaxial input in the back of the
SoundTouch Control Center and ran it to the digital input in the Onkyo
receiver. What I'm not sure is how to output the sound from the Onkyo
receiver to the Logitech speakers. Although Onkyo support remote
speakers (zone 2)they are analog only and the multichannel doesn't
seem to work in this case.

Assuming that I have the right cable what am I missing here? What I'm
trying to do is somehow output it to a differnt source other than DVD
or a VCR. Has anybody had tried this beofe and can point me in the
right direction. The speakers do support DVD and game consoles so I'm
assuming that the receiver shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks in advance!
