Default Need sound card / DAW advice please

"P100" wrote in message

I'm in the process of building a decent DAW...it's going to take a few
months to get the project off the ground (I have to finish an addition
first) BUT, I'd like to piece together a cheapo mini-DAW quickly, so
at least I can work on projects.

I've got the computer...so what do I need for a quick/cheap/easy way
to lay down some tracks. Can I do with software and one sound card
for now.

Sure.

This will also be good for me to learn more, and figure out where I
need to spend my money (when I build the real deal).

Check out some software named N-track.

What sound card can I pick up cheap just to mess around until I start
building a bigger and better DAW ?

How about the audio interface you already have?
