Yesterday as I was reading the May edition of Electronic Musician, I read the
article about The Block House in Austin, Texas. Voice-only recording is
intriguing to me, so I decided to look them up on the Internet. Unless I missed
it, I cannot find a website. In fact, the only site I found (below) indicates
that their former studio went out of business.

Has anyone heard of this studio or Joel Block? That's pretty amazing to get a
magazine article written about you while being a brand new company. Maybe Joel
has connections at the magazine.

How would EM know about the studio to be able to write about them?

Closed, but the engineers are still contactable, according to the
homepage. As are the accounts department.

It seems that they have changed the name to The Block House. I went back and
read the article again after I posted. It looks like the owner may have replied
to the magazine, which would explain how they knew about him.

My primary recording interests these days are voice only. It was intriguing to
see a studio specializing in voice. While I'm sure they're out there, I haven't
heard much about them.

The Block brothers have been in biz a long time, and probably just moved
on to do other stuff.

The studio has been in existence for decades. Joel was in business down
here before I left Austin in 1983.
