Default Carver amp questions

Sorry if this is a repeat, but my first query never made it to the
board.

One more try. I have recently procured a Carver PM-600 amp.

1. There is a switch labelled "sequence" and I can't imagine what it
might do. I have done a lot of googling, but nothing.

2. I don't have the manual. Anyone know how to connect speakers in
bridged mode?

(I plan to use the amp in many configurations. Normal stereo at home,
but last week I took it to a jazz gig and ran the PA mono through the
left channel, and my acoustic bass through the right. I don't think I
would ever need the bridged mode, but want to know how anyway.)

3. The power supply transformer (EU) buzzes. Can anyone steer me toward
finding a replacement? I have contacted service centers in both U.S.
and Germany, but no reply.

Thanks,

Robobass

The service centres are usually plagued with emails. You should call them by
telephone only. They will tell you how to send the amplifier for service.

You should not try to service this yourself, unless you are properly
trained, and have a lot of experience.

As for replacement parts, Carver is generally very good. Most of the major
parts in your amplifier are proprietary from Carver. You would have to use
the original parts to properly service your amplifier.

The buzzing in the transformer is most likely due to some of the windings
loosening up with age. They would normally replace the power transformer to
fix this type of fault.

1. Sequence is to delay turn on of several amps to avoid inrush
currents
2. Connect signal wire to R + and L- input conn, output on L&R positive
posts
3. Defective primary voltage driver board(triac not firing correctly),
not the transformer

Thanks so far.
I'm pretty sure it is the transformer itself. At least the sound
physically comes from there. I had it out already, and replaced the
crappy galvanized bolts with ss thinking more clamping pressure on the
plates might help. it did, a little. If I thought it was an electronic
problem, I would send it in. but replacing the trans. is an at-home job

You guys are making the bridging to difficult. On the back of the amp
is a panel in the center. Search for the 2 small holes in the back
labled "clipping eliminator" and "bridged mono (push)". If these
functions are enabled, they will be more "sunken in". To enable
bridge mono: 1.)Turn off amp. 2.)Make sure the source you want
amplified is plugged into the "left" input. 3.) Hook up the speaker
to the "left" channel output. 4.)Make sure the "bridged mono (push)"
button is pushed in (if you want it bridged.) 5.) turn on the amp
and enjoy! I would recommend turning the clip eliminator on, it will
protect both the amp and speaker(s) druing a concert or loud music,
whatever.
