Default Newbie PCM question

Hi all.. I am looking for information regarding the exact make up of a
PCM sample. I have been googling for a while now without getting any
real information as to just how exactly audio information is
encapsulated into PCM. Any information regarding this, or even a
pointer to a resource that would help me, would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
